Marketing agencies and departments would do well to remember that. Even as more women are put in top leadership roles, industries such as PR and marketing, arguably one of the most female-friendly career fields, are still very much run by men. Need proof? In Forbes’ ranking of the World’s Top 25 Most Influential CMOs, only four are women. Even more upsetting is information from a Grant Thornton study stating only 8 percent of CMOs are women.

There’s No Room for Gender Bias in PR, Marketing

Where My Girls At? Part 1

Traditionally, PR and marketing have been female-oriented industries. That’s why I’m so blown away by new research from WordStream showing that female online marketers are considered 21 percent less valuable then their male counterparts (cue outrage and Beyoncé feminist memes).

It’s no secret that women are paid less than men for the same jobs, but WordStream decided to take this further. The company conducted a 90-day customer satisfaction survey among its clients and found that even the lowest performing male account rep received a higher score than the best performing female rep, despite female-led accounts performing better than those led by men.
